In 2024, I worked hard, like most of us, pushing myself to be there for everyone, supporting and nurturing my clients. However, this had a detrimental effect on my health.
I was holding onto the thought, that by December 22nd I’d be on the plane, ready to immerse myself in two weeks of total relaxation, rebuilding my body and feeling great once more.
Do you get the irony in this? It’s crazy isn’t it, what we put ourselves through? I was so busy taking care of my clients, I had neglected myself in the process. I think we are all a little guilty of this at times.
On the first full day of my two-week yoga retreat, I booked an appointment with an Ayurvedic Doctor. They are Indian Doctors who take a full holistic approach to your health, in a different way to Western doctors.
He put together a plan of wet and dry massage, reflexology, eye cleanse, nose cleanse, and lots of additional extras, all administered by an experienced, Indian lady, who certainly knew her stuff. The way that she was able to manipulate, my muscles and tight spots was incredible. She worked on my neck, where I could feel some glands protruding, and manipulated my lymph nodes, which are all over your body, by day five, I was starting to feel a lot better.
On Christmas Eve, the yoga teacher delivered a special cacao ceremony and blended it with somatic breath work. Wow! It was off the scale amazing.
I could see with absolute clarity what 2025 held for me, and I can’t wait to start putting that vision into action.
The final, significant element of the retreat was about 48 hours before I was due to come home.
I went to see an Indian man called Raja. He had lots of singing bowls. I wanted to try it and see how my body reacted to a great big one, that he encouraged me to stand in so that I could feel the vibrational energy of the sounds. It was beautiful. My body told me that I needed to book a session with him, and he asked me to return at 1 pm for my appointment.
He invited me to sit on a stool where he did some reiki on my stomach. He asked me some questions about my background and said two things.
The word betrayal came up. If you’ve read my book, you’ll know this was a huge part of my journey. He also said that I had some issues with my family and the knot in my stomach was the area where it had been stored.
He then invited me to lay on a carpet, with the smaller singing blows above my head, the large one, I had been standing in, at my feet, and a final one sitting on my stomach. He started to strike the bowls, and it sounded like St Paul’s Cathedral as the peel of the bowls sang out around my head. What an experience!
He manipulated the knot in my stomach which was very tender, until it had loosened, and he said… ‘All those men!’
They were like vampires sucking away your energy.
It was time to let them go.
He told me that my root chakra was blocked, and my heart was wide open, which is probably why I’d been hurt so many times.

He also told me that my third eye was cloudy. He asked if I’d like him to clear it for me.
I of course said yes.
He sat, legs crossed at my feet, and proceeded to pull this great big anaconda (his words not mine) from my energy system. I was making a truly unearthly sound, like nothing that had come from my mouth before.
It seemed to go on a very long time, and in the end, I felt rung out and exhausted.
He told me that I shouldn’t get up because I’d feel dizzy and that he would make me some tea. He said, I’ve no one else booked in for the rest of the afternoon, so we can take as long as you like. I must have been with him for 3 hours, just chatting and letting my energy settle. What a beautiful soul.
On reflection, I realised that it was 7 years since I’d been in India, and how my life had changed, almost beyond recognition. Although it has been a challenging journey at times, I’m a much better person because of it.
My energy has shifted up a level, and I’m ready to do so much more aligned work with my clients this year. I’m planning three different retreats, including another return to India in December/January.
